Happy Lunar New Year! Lunar New Year and the next 15 days are a special time to honor our households, our ancestors, and under normal circumstances, we’d be gathering with family to feast. Tomorrow, my pod and I will gather for a homemade meal that will consist of 8 dishes that will represent long life, prosperity, peace, wholeness, growth, family, and hope. I learned what a "comfort woman" was when I was in junior high, and a science teacher asked me if my grandmother was a "comfort woman." When I looked at him blankly, he proceeded to explain it to me. I can't imagine any world in which that would've been an appropriate conversation to have with any person, let alone a person who is between 12-14 years of age. This person was not my friend, a relative, or a therapist. This man was an earth science teacher.

Recently, I’ve been doing a lot of introspection and trying to get back in touch with myself and the aspects of my life that make me feel whole, inspired, and alive. As part of that process, I’ve been journaling this year, a practice I was religious about in my teen years but abandoned in adulthood.
